Don't Be a Red Neck. Be Sure to Pack These Industrial Strength SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion Packets and Avoid Sunburns!

If you call your office the outdoors, then you deal with the elements on a regular basis. If there’s one outdoor injury that will bring a worker to the knees and it’s a sunburn. Avoid Sunburns with SPF30 Sunscreen Lotion

Just as damaging in the winter as they are in the summer, sunburns linger for several days and have a profound negative affect on a worker’s job performance and overall production. Simple movements, clothing, showering and even sleeping can be intolerable. Sun damage also leads to premature skin aging and dangerous melanoma.

Reporting a sunburn injury really upsets supervisors and health/safety officers. Why? Well, with proper precautions, sunburns are highly preventable!

To protect exposed skin from the sun’s harmful rays, outdoor workers need to have the proper sunscreen accessible and it must be applied regularly (typically every two hours), especially if there’s heavy sweating, rain or water activity involved. But toting or packing a squeeze bottle, spray bottle or squeeze tube of sunscreen isn’t realistic or practical when out in the job field. Plus, too much lotion can cause the hands to become slippery and this could lead to a potential accident.

WHAT’S THE MAGIC SPF NUMBER?

The American Academy of Dermatology suggest everyone use sunscreen that offers the following:

  • Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays)
  • Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or higher
  • Water resistance

According to a numerous sources, SPF 30 is ideal protection and effective in a variety of environments. Individuals should apply sunscreen liberally at least 15 minutes before they expose themselves to direct sunlight.

Remember, even if the sun is not shining and its overcast or foggy, you can still get badly burned. Protect your employees and yourself especially if near the water, as the sun's rays can reflect off of the water and still cause a pretty significant burn. It is also important to remember that high-number SPFs last the same amount of time as low-number SPFs. A high-number SPF does not allow you to spend additional time outdoors without reapplication.  Be smart and avoid the red neck.
