Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET) Technology Depletes Discarded P.E.T Water Bottles
Environmental concern has led to new efforts and innovations in product development concentrated on sustainable bio-plastic alternatives that will deplete P.E.T. plastic waste from landfill and recycling plants across the country. Many manufacturers are taking the next step in sustainability and utilizing an Eco-friendly alternative material called recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET).
The recycling process for rPET involves collecting discarded P.E.T. plastic bottle products that are cleaned, shredded, extruded as a fiber and then blended with recuperated polyester yarns to create bio-based fabric used in industrial work gloves, sleeves and hi-viz apparel!
- rPET is a type of plastic made from recycled P.E.T. plastic (food & beverage containers)
- Reduces the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills, oceans, and other natural environments
- Requires fewer resources than that of new fibers, reduces reliance on fossil fuel based resources and generates fewer CO2 emissions
- Discarded P.E.T. water bottles are shredded and extruded as a fiber then blended with recuperated polyester yarns to create a bio-based fabric used in industrial cut-resistant sleeve protectors, work gloves and ANSI compliant high-visibility work apparel
