BOUFFANT CAPS VS HAIR NETS

Bouffant caps differ from hair nets. Hair nets are made of nylon or polyester mesh material and are designed to stretch over the head and mat down the hair but if you look at one closely, you will notice a webbing effect. The webbing has openings or apetures which could inadvertently allow hair to pass through where as a bouffant cap is made from a layer of fabric free from apertures.

Another difference between a hair net and bouffant cap is that a hair net is a little camoflouged when worn whereas a bouffant cap stands right out making it easier for compliance checks. Bouffant caps also present a clean look-n-feel to guests who might visit the plant for a tour.

Our bouffant covers are available in different fabrics, colors and sizes such as 18-inch, 21-inch, 24-inch or 28-inch which is ideal for anyone with 'big hair'. Every head cap is made with a comfortable latex-free elastic gathering that keeps the bouffant in place and hair tucked in.

To help you select which bouffant style cap you need, below is some general information:

• Polypropylene : Spunbound polypropylene is the most economical and basic style bouffant cap commonly worn in dental, healthcare, medical research, pharmaceutical, food service, and janitorial services. This standard fabric is a very popular choice for basic protective apparel requiring routine light spray and particulate protection. The protective barrier properties are formed by bonding fibers together to form a single layer of breathable, woven-like material that is very lightweight and cool to wear.

If color-coding is crucial to departments or assembly lines, we have polypropylene bouffant caps that are available in a variety of unique colors such as red, pink, orange, blue, white, green and yellow!

• SMS/Multi-Ply : SMS fabric is appropriate for extended wear situations involving low to moderate fluid and particulate protection and commonly worn in healthcare, research, clean rooms, food service, pharmaceutical, electronic manufacturing or for surgical centers. SMS or multi-ply bouffant caps are more opaque and a 'heavier' option to wearing polypropylene bouffant caps. They are also very breathable. The protective barrier properties consist of inner layers of meltblown polypropylene sandwiched between outer layers of spunbond polypropylene. Strong, fluid-resistant and breathable, this embossed multi-layer material provides an optimal mix of protection, aesthetics and comfort.
• Polyethylene : Made of 3/4-mil clear, non-linting  polyethylene fabric, these bouffant caps offer waterproof barrier protection and are ideal for use in food processing, pharmaceutical, painting, electronic manufacturing and assembly. These poly head covers are also used as disposable shower caps in hospitality establishments and commonly worn in hair salons.  
• Tyvek® : Recommended for critical environment applications and only available from Dupont, Tyvek® is made of flash-spun, high-density polyethylene which forms a nonwoven material ideal for use in lead and asbestos abatement/remediation, general maintenance/operations, spray painting, general clean-up, labs, pharmaceutical and available for clean-room applications. The protective barrier is built into the fabric itself; it can't be abraded or worn away and provides an excellent shield to small dry particles, microorganisms and non-hazardous liquids. Tyvek Bouffant Caps are durable and available in clean processed, sterile and non-sterile options.
• Microporous : Liquid-repellant, tear and puncture resistant, microporous fabric is well suited for hot and humid environments. Ideal for extended wear conditions where moderate to heavy fluid contact, light chemical exposure or a high degree dry particulate holdout is expected. This soft, flexible proprietary non-woven material provides superior protection and great breathability that rival Tyvek®.
